Adorable photo, Minette!

Quotes from a dog

1. "Yeah, Gladys? When you said, 'tub-time', I thought you meant, 'me-time!'"

2. "You're not going to put us in matching pajamas after this, right?"

3. "I seem to recall that last time, there were less bubbles...and less children."

4. "So I ate a few extra bones this week. Why is this human laughing at me? I thought this was a shame-free house!"

5. "OMG. Gladys. Where is the cat???"

Funny Friday December 2019: Ruff Life

Hey O friends!

Today’s post is this month’s Funny Friday, a regular feature published on the last Friday of every month. Funny Friday is a collaborative project. Each month one of the participants submits a picture, then we all write 5 captions or thoughts inspired by that month’s picture. Links to the other bloggers’ posts are below, click on them and see what they’ve come up with. I hope we bring a smile to your face as you start your weekend.

Here’s today’s picture. It was submitted by me!

This is a photo of BallPark Frank, age 13

1.  BallPark: "Let a family rescue you, they said. They will treat you with dignity in your final years. Yeah, right."

2.  BallPark:  "I'll put on your silly outfit (ONCE!) for the low-low price of a Sirloin Steak."

3.  BallPark: "If any of the other hound dogs see this picture, my reputation as 'Alpha Dog' is over."

4.  Ballpark: "How do I simultaneously look like I hate this AND love how everything feels at the same time?"

5.  BallPark: "The humans bought ME jammies for Christmas too? Don't make eye contact or you'll cry. I really am part of a family!"

Happy New Year, friends!

1. Fashion Alert!!! "Hot Pants" are coming back, Spring 2020

2. I've been called a "smart a$$" before, but never a "spicy a$$." Is that a thing?

3. "If you're not wearing your Sriracha pants on Wednesdays, you can't sit with us."

4. Will my "Frank's Hot Sauce" sweater clash with these pants?

5. You think these are cute? Wait till you see my Soy Sauce slippers! (Kikkoman, of course!)

Use Your Words: April 2019 Shuffleboard?

Today’s post is a writing challenge created by Karen @ Baking in A TornadoThis is how it works: 11 participating bloggers picked 4 – 6 words for someone else to turn into a post. All words must be used at least once and all posts will be different as each writer has received their own set of words. No one joining knows who received their words or in what direction the writer will take them. Until now. That’s the challenge!

My words are:
coffee ~ egg salad ~ hump ~ pansy ~ formation
They were submitted by the very sweet Jules@ The Bergham Chronicles

Some Tuesday in April 1960

Betty, practicing and editing today's speech:

Hi Ladies! Thanks to each of you for arriving on time to this week's Bridge Luncheon! (as if Lauren is EVER on time.) I'd like to personally thank Sarah for serving the coffee, and Judy, for bringing the delicious egg-salad sandwiches. The small petite triangles you cut them into are perfect for keeping our waistlines, ahem "in-line. (wait for laughter

Now, you may have noticed that Charlotte and I are not dressed appropriately for today's lunch. (note judging glances) Instead, we've worn a sample outfit for Friday's first annual Shuffleboard tournament! (wait for excited applause) I understand that it will be hard for some of us to get over the hump of not wearing our usual dresses. We are Debutantes, after all! (smile at nervous-nodders) But ladies! I promise you will not lose your femininity! Just look at the gorgeous colors of these pedal pushers! I've made mine in cerulean and Char is wearing that beautiful spring pansy-red color! After Bridge, I'll pass around sewing patterns of the very pants we're wearing.  Surely you'll have a pair of your own whipped up by Friday! (offer help to the less-skilled seamstresses, perhaps bartering for child tending! Also, remind the women it's not yard work they're tending to. This is the opportunity to show off their jewelry!)  *Use your pearls and new white cuff bracelet as examples!

Phyllis brought copies of the 'Rules and Etiquette of Shuffleboard' to pass out today. Be sure to look over the pamphlets before the tournament and get with your assigned team sometime this week to practice. We'd like to arrive Friday in correct dress, correct formation, and with the rules-of-play securely under our belts. (reassure and repeat to any nervous-Nellys.)

Enough of that, Charlotte and I will quickly change and then, it's time for Bridge! (more applause)
***(Make Charlotte promise that this is the LAST speech I have to give...at least until beach volleyball.)

Happy "Wear-Whatever-You-Feel-Like" aka, "Wear-Whatever-is-Clean" Day, friends :)

Blog With Friends: November 2014

Gobble Group 2014!!

Hello friends! Welcome to November's edition of "Blog With Friends!" We are 7 bloggers who've joined together to bring you some Turkey Day-love.
Some projects are tasty, some are crafty and some are techie; all are a lot of fun. After my project, click on each blog post project title you'd like to visit. When you get to each blog, say, "Gobble Gobble!"or "hello!' Just let them know you're there. Everyone loves visitors.

My November project: Make a Thankful tree.

"Thankful Tree" Tutorial

Materials:
  • Large Branch
  • Clear Vase (large enough to hold the branch)
  • Vase filler: acorns, small pumpkins, rocks, etc.  I used glass and paper acorns.
  • Leaves: I used glitter leaves from Michael's and die cut leaves from my friend. (Thanks, Char!) You can use real leaves (short term) or cut out your own paper ones.
  • Clips for hanging leaves. I used IKEA clips, but any kind will do.
  • Thread (for hanging smaller leaves)/ hole punch
  • Sharpies
  • Scissors
Add ons:
  • Bulbs
  • Twine
Warnings:
  • You're using a branch. Don't poke your eye out.
  • Sharpies can bleed through the leaves. Use paper underneath to protect your surfaces.

1. Grab a branch. Or pick a branch and have your son some one cut it down for you.

2. Find enough filler items for the vase to hold up the branch.

3. Make sure the vase won't tip.

4. Using a Sharpie, have your family fill out things they are thankful for. I used clips on the bottom of the large leaves, and thread for the lighter leaves.

When you ask the man to help out, he will write that he's thankful for the dogs and for the Internet.

5. Hang them on your "tree".

6. I had fall-colored bulbs on hand. On each one, we wrote the name of family/friends that have passed away. It was a good time to reflect on how grateful we were to have had them in our lives. We tied the "remember ties" with twine, then hung them on the tree.

Here's a close-up of a bulb dedicated to my grandma.

7. Keep a basket near of extra leaves, clips, bulbs and sharpies. Family and guests can add to the tree whenever they want. Enjoy!

Fly on the Wall: July 2014

Hey there!  Welcome to the July Fly on the Wall Group Challenge. This month, 13 awesome bloggers and I are describing what it would be like if you were to take a peek inside our homes....

Have a "look" around mine, and then go visit the other blogger's pages. There's always something fun, sentimental, or better yet, embarrassing going on. It's like your house, only we're admitting to the craziness. You have our permission. Buzz on over!

Cast:
The man
Alex, the eldest (daughter, 20) She has a name!!
C., The middle (son, 16)
J., The youngest (son, 9)
Henry and Lila- The dogs

If you were a fly on our wall this month, you would have heard and saw this:

Pasta Mondays:
Pretty self-explanatory. Everyone can usually make it for dinner on Mondays and pasta is something we all like to eat.

Sitting at the table:
J.: "I love it when we have Alfredo sauce."
C.:" I love it when we have meatballs."
Alex: "I like the angel-hair pasta."
Me: "Well guess what? We're having linguine with red sauce. Stop dreaming and start eating."
***
Me to Alex: "You know, I'm implementing my grandmother's rule. If you can't bring back this Tupperware, I'm not sending you home with any leftovers".
Alex: "If I knew that's all it took to get leftovers, I would have put a box of Tupperware in my car for emergencies."
***
Alex: "I was invited to a friend's house on Monday. Can you make it Pasta Tuesday next week?"

Random Conversations:

Me: "I had that weird dream again last night. I was teaching and didn't have anything prepared for the first day."
Alex: "Mom, that reminds me. I dreamed you un-invited me for Thanksgiving. You said you didn't have enough money to feed all of us."
C.: "Both of your dreams are too boring. I think I dreamed about an Amish colony who built their houses out of bee hives and refused to wear pants."

***
C.: "Mom. I ate that whole bowl of grapes. I had a stomach ache after eating the first few. Ugh...(holding his stomach)
Me: "Why did you eat the whole bowl if you knew you were feeling that way?"
C.: "They were too good to pass up. I just ate a few, then rolled onto a few pillows on the couch. When it would feel like I had the room, I ate more. I did that all night until they were gone. It's called determination."
***
C: "Okay, I finished the chores dad left. Do you mind if I play Xbox Live with Al today?"
Me: "I guess that's okay. Do I know this Al? Is he from the robotics group?"
C. "Uh, no. It's your daughter. She's playing from her house. Really mom, have you already forgotten about her?"
***
My mother-in-law invited me to go to some antique/junk shops with her. I called my husband to let him know I was going.
The man: "Have fun!" then he added, "Remember though, don't get any more chairs. We have more than enough of them and you STILL haven't finished re-doing the others out on the patio."
Me: "Uh huh."
When my mother-in-law arrived, she asked what we'd be looking for that afternoon. I smiled.
Me: "Hmm. I'm thinking chairs."

The dogs: (Hey, my kids are hardly home anymore.)

I yelled a little too loud at Lila for peeing on the carpet. She ran to the basement and hid under the futon. We have wood floors with rugs. "Again? Why everyday? Why not pee on the easier-to-clean floors?" I ask everyone and no one at the same time.

Me: "What?" I ask, looking at the boys staring back at me.
C.: "Nothing. You just seem a little upset today."
J.: "Yeah, Kind of grouchy."
Me to the man: "Grouchy? I'm not grouchy. Do I seem grouchy to you?"
The man: "Let's just say there's not enough room under the futon for all of us."

***
Me to the man: "Who would have believed that animals would do just about anything for a silly snack?

Lila
Henry

The man: "Anyone who has seen you on Dunkin' Donut Wednesday."
Touche', Mr. Man. Touche'.

It's a strawberry-glazed, people.

Happy Friday, friends:)
-Michele

Fly On The Wall- April 2014

Hey there!  Welcome to the April Fly on the Wall Group Challenge. This month, 11 awesome bloggers and I are describing what it would be like if you were to take a peek inside our homes....

Have a "look" around mine, and then go visit the other blogger's pages. There's always something fun, sentimental, or better yet, embarrassing going on. It's like your house, only we're admitting to the craziness. You have our permission. Buzz on over!

Henry and Lila- The dogs

Goodbye Fly?
I'm taking a few months off from the challenges so I can get my daughter hitched. My future son-in-law is graduating from college next week, and A. is about a year behind. Between semesters, they're getting married. (Can you say 'multi-tasking'?) We're trying to make the transition as smooth as possible. By "we", I mean everyone else. I am spending my days crying and rocking in the fetal position. Letting go is hard, friends.

Since things are all wedding/all the time, I'm devoting this month's fly to how our family is coping with all the changes 'round here.

The dogs:
How do you feel about A. leaving?
Lila: I'm devastated. She gives me all of her meat (under the table) from dinner.
Henry: Yeah. She always high-fives me when I poop in the boys' room. I'm not letting her go!

The youngest:
What will you miss/not miss about your sister?
J: I will miss how A. moves the stuff in her car to make room for me.
J: I won't miss how she keeps stealing my orange toothpaste. I'm also happy that I will get her room.

A. lives out of her car. Like a hobo. A hobo with a car.

The middle child:
What will you miss/not miss about A's leaving?
C: I won't miss her losing my coffee mugs in her car anymore. Or stealing my socks. I also won't miss how she jumps into bed and then wakes me up to turn off her light. I am excited to be getting her room when she leaves.
C. I will miss our talks, playing badminton and how we both understand the value of an old video game. "Ty the Tasmanian Tiger" and "Simpson's Hit and Run" on the original X-box.

Late night video games, conversations and unwanted, but needed advice.

The Man:
M: Well, I'm happy that I'll be able to crunch chips and eat cereal without driving her nuts. I won't miss being afraid to look into her bathroom. Jeesh, have you seen her car? I'll probably be cleaning up her room to make space for an office...
M. I will miss how sensitive she is about the world. I'll definitely miss that sense of humor; and how she makes you laugh out loud. I'll miss having our whole family under one roof...

The eldest, herself:

A. I won't miss being grilled on the day before a Fly on the Wall post is due. I won't miss hearing the dishes clank around on Saturday mornings. I know you're cleaning out the dishwasher and that I should be helping...but it's SATURDAY! I won't miss the sound of LEGOs being sorted through early in the morning. I won't miss hearing the clarinet at 3 a.m.! I won't miss using any of the bathrooms a boy/man just used. (Welcome to marriage!)

A. I will miss: teasing my brothers about ANYTHING. I'll miss the dogs. I'll miss coming home and smelling what's for dinner. I'll miss using your endless amount of school supplies, coffee and "popcorn meals". I'll miss that whenever I tell you someone hurt me, you threaten to find them and the mother they came from." I'll miss the ice machine. I'll miss our long talks and being able to run to dad and have him automatically diagnose my electronic problems. I'll also miss that silly muppet face dad makes when he's surprising us or making you laugh. I'll miss falling asleep knowing I'm safe and loved. Ugh. I'm going to miss having my own room...

Me:

I won't miss reminding A. to pick up her shoes/backpack/phone/bedroom/bathroom/car. I may not miss when she says , "Is this REAL?" every time someone is annoying her.

I will miss everything else. The scales of estrogen will change when she leaves and I will be the lone girl. BTW, I hope you don't mind, but I am making plans for that bedroom of yours...

This will make a great craft room!

I will miss hearing the infectious laugh, the sarcasm, the humor and the general caring about how everyone else feels. I'll miss that I'm the first one A. sees after school and that she still feels comfortable sharing her day with me. I'll miss the camaraderie we share in awkward situations. I'll miss sending her to McDonalds. I'll miss the smell of her hair spray or the obnoxious fumes of her nail polish. I'll miss how we understand that if someone tickles us, we will kill them.

She's the grown-up. I don't want to cut the apron strings. I don't want to share. Will her new husband know that she can't take too much Tylenol? Will he remember that she doesn't like to wear socks to bed, but that she HAS to have her feet covered with blankets? If she uses the wrong detergent, she'll break out? Will he sit on the floor with her knowing that the rug is where she loves to eat her cereal?
Does he know the words to, "I'll love you forever?" Does he know that she has said those words to me when I was feeling sad?

I hope so.
I love you and will miss you everyday that you don't come for dinner, A.
Forever.
