A mostly true journey of a girl, her man, and their three kids; all trying to live harmoniously in cities somewhere in Utah. Names and exact locations may be changed in order to protect the grouchy.
Nicole, we had to open her up and play around a bit. By "we" I mean the middle son and the man. C. helped with the oiling and taking apart stage. The man fixed the electrical so I could put it in that old table. It runs like a dream. A few cons: It's only straight stitch (which is what I use anyway) and it weighs 2 tons. Other than that, I'm thinking the new Library bags will be made on her :)
Isn't she pretty? Getting ready to get back to the roots of the blog..Sewing and giving away what I sew. Haha. That's what Mark says, anyway. Feeling old? Muriel is 63! Thanks for leaving a comment- I heard from both of my siblings today <3
Thanks, Double S. :) You are pretty awesome at pointing out the consonantal alliteration. :) My middle son picked out the name. It was almost Meet Maude, or Meet Mertle. I think it's a good reason to look for more machines. The man says, Maybe...Not. Looking forward to your Friday post, -MM :)
She's a beauty, Shel! Don't you just love old machines? I found a 1930's Royal portable typewriter at a thrift shop for a $1 this winter. And, I still have an antique treadle sewing machine that I want to take apart and turn into a side table. AND, I can't wait to see your library bags!! I am getting a used laptop --my first-- any day, and she'll be wanting to go for a ride in one of your beautiful library bags! Wish I COULD be there to help you with the sewing... that would be a dream.... someday, girl, someday... <3
I love this machine, Stacy! They just don't make things like that anymore.. :) I'm always looking for typewriters. Unfortunately, people were using the keys for crafts. Not unfortunately, I guess...they are cute. But it's hard to find a vintage TW in one piece. Congrats to you. Only 1 dollar? Dang! I hope you'll like the bags. A bit different-looking, but I love the one I've been using :) Someday you'll visit and we'll have tea in the yard and talk about "sewing and boys". Not necessarily in that order :)
Tea in the yard and "sewing and boys" sounds like heaven... it will happen one day... the fog is lifting... My thought in the thrift store was to take it apart for the keys. (It was only $1, right?) But the more I looked at it, the more beautiful I realized it was. Then I wondered on my FB page if I should frankenstein it for parts or leave it for the object of beauty if is. The boy I like, quickly, and simply, said, "Don't frankenstein it", and that was that. You can see the model I got under my FB photos Cover Photos Album. Can't wait to see the new bags... I know I'll love them! Let me know when their ready!
Thanks, Jen! She's found a permanent place in the living room. "She's the second prettiest girl in the room." says the man. Number one? His computer ;)
That is so pretty, Shel! What a wonderful job you did. My mom has my great-grandmothers machine. Its a beaut! I'll have to get pics and send them to you. Also comes in a gorgeous wooden case.
BTW, yes its me. Yes I haven't written. Yes I'm a slacker. Yes I love you. Yes you forgive me. :)
Goodness me! That was a gorgeous machine and what a good job you have done to clean it up! My mom got rid of her manual old machine about 15 years back. I was hoping she would ask me before giving it away.......
Thanks so much. The machine didn't come with a manual, but by the magic of the internet, we were able to find it on the "brother" site". I'm so happy to have it..and it sews thru many fabrics at once. You know how much that helps! Keep your eye out. This one was super cheap.
Awww, she's beautiful. And she looks just like you. You're gonna share those Mike & Ikes, right?
ReplyDeleteWe do both have that dewey blue-glow :) Mike and Ikes Rock. They're part of the package (I was out of chocolate).
DeleteShe's beautiful! Is she in complete working order? If I buy a new shellybean bag, will it be partially constructed using Muriel?

She's a beauty! I haven't sewn in years, some day I hope to have time to do so.
ReplyDeleteDawn, sewing keeps me sane. Probably like your wonderful cooking does for you :)
DeleteShe's a good looking lady (I like the older ones!). Good job on the restoration SB and CJM! Where is Eustace?
ReplyDelete!st of all, that first comment cut deep. 2nd, I never thought of spelling Eustace. Totally forgot about him...and Courage. That show was freaky too :)
