Secret Subject Swap- June!

Hello, June!! It's time for the SSS!

If you're a regular reader, you know that the Secret Subject Swap is a collaboration between various bloggers. We receive secret topics from a blogger in an e-mail and put our own spin on the subjects. The 11 blogs participating this time are listed at the end of this post. Go have a look and leave a comment. It will make my our day! :)

My Secret Subject this month was:  What makes you quirky? Do you think you're quirky?

It was submitted by Christine @http://mooreorganizedmayhem.blogspot.com/

According to Dictionary.com, the word quirky is described as:

quirk·y

adjective, quirk·i·er, quirk·i·est.
having or full of quirks.

According to UrbanDictionary.com, the word is described as:

1.quirky

1169 up411 down
something that is strange/not normal but cool
Wearing long stripy socks that are odd...

Well, I do own, striped socks, but...

My first thought about this topic was, "No. I am not quirky. Now what?" Shortest SSS ever!
I don't think "Quirky" is a negative word; not at all. In my head I think of Zoe Deschanel from 'New Girl". She's quirky. I think of  a seamstress and author named Gertie who wears tattoos with her retro-looking dresses. She's quirky too. There is something "cute" about the word. Yes, they have some different nuances, but they make Quirky look adorable.

There have to be some things that are a bit quirky about me, right? Does that differ from "crazy"? I sure hope so. Hmm...How about that I feel comfortable answering swap subjects in acronym form? What? I haven't done that yet?

Every year, I would have my students describe them selves using their name as an acronym. ALLY, for example, could be Adorable-Listener-Lackadaisical-Yeller... you get the point.

Let's see what I can describe about myself with the word "Quirky"

Q:  Quaint.  Quiet.   Questionable Eating Choices. Mike and Ike's with popcorn for breakfast? Chocolate Peanut Butter with apples minus the apples? Don't mind if I do.

U: Understanding.  United.  Unwilling to wear damp jeans (ever!) or wear socks to bed.

I:  Intense.  Imaginative.  Intuitive. I have a skill of reading people quickly. I'm about 90 percent correct most of the time. Hey, if you are willing to buy a toothpaste recommended by 4 out of 5 dentists, then surely you can trust me when I say I can sense a mean girl a mile away.

R: Resourceful.  Responsible.  Raised by a Village. I owe who I am to so many people. My extended family, my husband, my friends and most recently, my blogger friends. If you were around to read my last post, you'd understand the power of receiving love from people you only know electronically. It was a beautiful thing.

K: Keen. Knowledgeable. Keeper of Ducks-in-a-row.That's what I do for a living now. I'm a mom, wife, teacher and friend, but I am not a superhero. Lessons learned. Keeping those little quackers in line is hard work, peeps. I'm building a village of my own to keep myself and everyone else waddling down the correct path.

Y: Yogi. Yes Girl. Young at heart. Nothing is more calming to me than laughing with my kids, pulling out a box of 64 crayons, some paper and going to town on it. The kids can just watch for all I care. I'm a shower singer who pales to the diva that sings when I'm alone in my car. My dancing skills (which I use often), have people comparing me to either Michael Jackson, or Elaine from Seinfeld. Doesn't matter. My eyes are usually closed the whole time. I don't run with scissors, but have been known to fall on the kitchen floor with a mouthful of candy canes while rocking out to Bruno Mars. I play checkers like I mean it (even if you're 8). I can tell you which episode of The Brady Bunch is on from just looking at the beginning scene. I cry when my feelings get hurt and I laugh with my friends like it's the last chance I'll ever get.

Is some (or most) of that "quirky"? I'm really not sure...I guess I'm still trying to discover who I  am. Aren't we all?

Thank you Christine, for the fun topic!

We really couldn't ask for better weather. It's been sunny and in the low 80s. We are in for a heat wave this week though, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for working air conditioning and large supplies of Popsicles.

Keep cool, my friends :)

    1. Thanks, Stacy. I love learning about other bloggers too. After the research and talking with my family, I found that I am indeed quirky. The Urban dictionary says it's not cool to call yourself quirky, but I'm not cool, so I guess that's ok :)

  2. I love that you sing and dance like you mean it. Music is the essence of youth.

    1. Music has been life-saving. I'm not kidding. My singing and dancing is not pretty, but that's the fun part.

  3. I've learned that you are WAY more than 90% correct in your intuition. 99.99% from what I can tell.

I'm definitely going to use that "quackers in line" quote, love it!

Not only am I laughing picturing you falling on the kitchen floor with a mouth full of candy canes while dancing, but I fully believe that has happened, and I think it's probably happened more than once!

If you would just post every day I'd be a much happier person. No pressure, just tellin' ya.

    1. Intuition; it's a gift and a curse. LOL! I absolutely fell and cut the inside of my mouth whilst dancing to Bruno Mars. It was during Christmas and I was cleaning the floors and acting like a fool. It was probably hilarious for the ones watching it happen. Just another day in my life :)
I love you, my supportive friend!

We could be kindred breakfast buddies & mean girl spotters!
I so enjoy taking a peek into your life and you truly express yourself in such a way that makes me giggle, identify and continue to think you happen to be full of awesome-sauce!
When you find yourself, could you send up some flairs because the rest of us are just tripping around trying to do the same. xo

    1. Thank you, Meg. Breakfast is supposed to be the most important meal, so I say, why not make it the yummiest? I'm not planning on finding myself anytime soon, but when I do, I'll be sure to let you know :) It's always good to know I'm not the only one tripping around <3

  8. it always takes me a bit to work my topic into a post I like, I think you did a great job. I think we are all quirky each in our own way. I actually rather be quirky than boring and plain. I think it is important to stand out and be the contradiction rather than fit in.

    1. Thanks, K. I absolutely wouldn't call myself boring or plain, so quirky it is!! I worry every time if I can do justice to the topics, so I'm glad you liked it! Have a terrific weekend :)

  10. I could have sworn I commented on this, but I guess I clicked off before submitting. When I was pregnant with my twins, I developed a love for Swedish Fish and nacho cheese. YUM! And I love to eat popcorn with M&M's and chocolate chips mixed in.

You are all the best parts of quirky! ♥

    1. Well, now I have to buy MMs and chocolate chips to go with the popcorn. That will make me want to buy mini marshmallows and cheerios too. Why eat anything plain when you can have a little of everything wonderful? I'll have to pass on the swedish fish though. My whole family loves them, but I can't get on board. Can we still be twinsies? LOL

  11. I don't think quirky is a negative word either. Speaking as one of the few who gets to see you every day, my vote is in the quirky column (although I don't recall seeing too much dancing, you must do that when I'm not around). That being said, we wouldn't want you any other way. Keep up your quirky ways and your great posts!

    Love,
    M

    1. I'm a dancing fool, man! Where do you think your daughter gets all that twirling from? How do you think dinner gets made? Haven't you seen The Big Chill? LOL. Thanks for your props and for the New Mike and Ike's. Now, onto fixing the air conditioning... <3

  12. OK... Is it just coincidental that I keep following "The Man" on here???

Sorry I'm late to your party... Been a crazy 48 hours. Having said that:

I LOVE this post (as usual). "Y" stands out for me as I would just love to be a "Fly on the Wall" in that car of yours as you get your "Rock On" on!!!

And BTW (did you catch that??? started this sentence with an And!!! Ha...), I think "quirky" is pretty cool.

    Have a Great Week, Slu

I hope you are smiling this weekend!
I just had a steak, so I am more than happy! LOL

  13. I always feel like you are not so far away when I read your posts. I can identify with Q, U and I without a doubt. We have always had unhealthy eating habits and pete and I still get like our parents are gone for the weekend. This is short, enjoy anyway you can.

    1. Thanks, K. I love the line about eating like your parents are gone. Remember the line from "st. Elmo's Fire" about the best tasting peanut butter and jelly sandwich? I STILL feel like that in the grocery. "You mean I can buy the Twinkies AND a Snickers? Oh yeah I can!! <3

  14. Yeah Shellybean. You're very quirky. Your insufficient nutrition ideals and your obsession with Brady bunch. It's a shame that obsession couldn't be said for the same for why lil Mary Ingalls lost her eye sight...... But not bitter. It a darn good thing you have excellent ducklings! We love you and that you're young at heart. (Like whispering so the dogs won't hear you talk about them.... Even though they are inside and we are outside.) Great post!

    1. VERY quirky? Thanks, chickie. The Brady Bunch memory recovery is a gift. I won't lie. I'm amazing at it. Not so much for Little House. I did love the books, but after Mary lost her sight, was there really any hope for a Thelma and Louise ending? I think not.
I do have some pretty awesome and equally quirky ducklings.
I will always whisper when referring to the dogs. Now, I worry they might be able to lip-read. ...
Love you with my soul and am glad that I get to talk with you via my blog. Who knew?

    1. Thank you, Dawn. I'm not surprised you're young at heart, too! You'd have to be to have such delicious recipes to try. I'm sure the award is terrific; I completely understand "busy". It's been non-stop here too. That must be why summer goes by so fast each year, eh?
