Two awards and a crossroad..

Hello friends,

I was blessed to be given two blog awards this week! Some things are "right on time" and that's how I feel about all of the blog love lately.

Recently, I've been having a lull in my blogging. I'm sorry about that.

Have you ever had times where you're frustrated or disappointed...where you're a bit lost and not sure how to handle the life you have right now? Come on. I CAN'T be the only one... I find it hardest at these times, to be witty or crafty or sane. If I type what I'm really thinking, I fear I may scare some of my readers off or get arrested or something...

I told my husband last weekend that I was thinking of quitting the blog. I always wanted to make it to  25, 000 hits. It was huge number at one time to me.  Then this weekend, there it was. 25, 003. Fantastic. Now what?

When the man asked why I wanted to give up something I'd worked so hard to build, all I could answer was, "I don't know if I have anything else of substance to say".

Words matter. I know that. Because I say it all the time. I just have to figure out what to do with MY words.

While I was in the midst of all this contemplating, these awards came along.

Oh, how they make me smile.  I'm so proud of them and adore the people who passed them on to me. I love that readers have stopped by to check out what's going on in my world. I've gotten the chance to meet many new blogging friends, too; people I never would have met in "real" life. NOT meeting them would have been a shame, because many of us have so much in common. I'm more than grateful for those blog-ships and all the smiles that have accompanied them.

So Claire and Ashley?  Thanks for giving me another day of something else to say. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for that.

Thanks first to Claire, from Another New Day for passing on the Laine Blogger  award.

It's kind of a beauty-blogger award. I know. I'm not that much into the whole "beauty products" stuff.  Not because I don't want to be.  It is just that I'm a stay at home mom who sometimes doesn't wash off her make-up at night and wears her clothes to bed out of exhaustion. Before that, I was a teacher who played with pudding paints and strung Fruit Loop on yarn necklaces. It was hard to feel beautiful dressed in  an ABC jumper and clogs....

None of that matters though, because I'm learning from these beautiful bloggers every day. Who knows, I may make it to the grocery someday with more than a ponytail and chapstick. I'm halfway kidding...

I've chosen to pass this award to the following five blogs. They are all written by some talented girls. Stop by if you get the chance, tell them I sent you and give them some sugar.

1. Across the Pond
2. Houndstooth & Heels
3. Sew much to do, Sew little time
4. A Little Dash of Diva
5. Barbara and 1923

To pass the award on,  you:

1. Tag the blogger who awarded you
2. Answer the 5 questions
3. Award it to 5 more bloggers

And my answers to the questions are:

1.What is your current beauty obsession?
Other than getting a brush through my hair? I'm loving the bright, creamy colors of nail polish out now. I've fallen for a Revlon periwinkle color. I only polish my toes, but it's been fun for summer flip-flop weather.

2. What is the one beauty item you wished you owned?
I was thinking that I wanted a big old bottle of WEN shampoo. The infomercials make it look like a hair miracle. But then, I read a hilarious review from a fellow blogger that changed my mind a bit. It is by the way, a must read.

I guess as a back up, I'd love any product that could make my freckles-turned large age-spots disappear.

3. What is your favourite post to read or write about?
I love reading/writing about sewing reviews, sweets and being an over-anxious mom, but even more, I love anything that makes me or my readers laugh.

4. What inspired you to become a blogger?
Validation. It's a way to prove I'm still walking upright.

5. What nail polish are you wearing now?
Nothing on my fingers. On my toes? Avon's Ruby Red Slippers. So fun.

Thanks again, Claire @Another New Day!! Claire is also a teacher-turned-SAHM. She's from "across the pond". How cool is that?

***

My second award was given to me by Ashley over at Sorry Kid, Your Mom Doesn't Play Well With Others (I know, best blog name ever..) Thank you, Thank you for passing on the award! (wiping away yet another tear..) If you're not a perfect mom and you want to laugh until embarrassing things happen, stop over there now.

Here are the Rules for the Versatile Blogger Award:

1. Add the award to your blog.
2. Thank the person who presented it to you.
3. List seven random facts about yourself.
4. List the rules.
5. Pass the award onto seven other bloggers.
6. Inform each blogger they have won by posting a comment on their blog

Seven Random Facts about Myself:

1. I can decorate, sew and craft the bologna out of a house, but I will kill anything outside of one. I loathe gardening.

2. I've ALWAYS wanted to be a mom and a teacher. Always.. But,
I NEVER wanted to be married. Yeah, I didn't really think that one through, but thank goodness that all ended well..

3. I'm ambidextrous. I eat and write left handed, but do everything else with my right hand. (I wouldn't be caught dead in school using those Lefty scissors). Sure, I get ink/chalk/pencil lead on my hands from scraping them along my writing, but I can put away groceries and empty a dishwasher like a super hero.

4. I kill the environment by drinking water from water bottles. It's wrong. I know it, and I can't stop. Lukewarm water in a bottle is the best.

5. I'm a very good tipper and I always stack all of the dishes on the table to make it easier for the busboys/girls. Waiting tables seems hard, man.

6. There is nothing more important to me than the people that live in my house.

7. I love football season. The man and I waste a ridiculous amount of time watching college football on Saturdays. Then, the NFL on Sundays in the afternoon AND night.... Eventually Mondays...and Thursdays, too. We have the paper marked up every week with our picks. We're Mitten People first. Michigan Wolverines, Detroit Lions, and then every body else....ahem, Dallas Cowboys last. :P

There you go.

My 7  choices are people I constantly read or stalk. No, those two are not the same thing. Please go give them a look. You may be hooked as well :)

3. Frou Frou bynickie

Happy thoughtful Tuesday, friends.

  1. Love the new pic. Velma's favorite place. Such a nice view of the valley and the Wasatch Front mtn's. Don't read many blogs other than political ones. I find they're a better and more reliable source than TV or newspapers. Glad you share some of your life on your blog. Feel like I know you a lot better!

    1. Thanks, John. It was a beautiful drive that day around the island. Lots of buffalo, not so many antelope.

Yeah, this probably isn't the place to get your political fix, but it is a great place to read embarrassing things about your extended family.

Your comment was a nice surprise. Stop by anytime.

  2. I'm so grateful that you got those 2 awards in time to stop your quitting (did you get that?). I wouldn't want to be out there in the blogosphere without you! And 25,000 hits, WOW, obviously you should be blogging!

  4. Hi Michele, first things first....You have amazing content which is a great read and keeps me wanting to know more. Please don't stop. You never know what anyone is currently going through that stops upon your blog....you have a way of making people feel that they're not alone. Keep it up!!! As for the Versatile Blogger award....you have made my day...seriously. I've only started blogging 2 months ago and to have someone think of me and my blog enough to put us forward....I am very grateful, thank you. 1. Helen, Thank you for such a sweet response. Seriously, it warmed my heart. I'm glad you're accepting the award. Your blog is so cute and I hope many more people come and check it out. I even listed you as one of my blogs to "stalk"! Thanks also for paying it forward. It all really does feel so good. Take your time. Some of the awards can become overwhelming to complete. Let me know when you post!

  5. I am glad you are going to keep going. You can bring a smile to my face and inspire me with your creativity, but most importantly, you touch my heart. BTW, I remember thinking how glamorous you made that ABC jumper and clogs look. I knew I could never pull it off with the panache that you had.

  6. Congratulations Shel on your awards :-)Yeah!!!!! now what is this I read about you thinking of giving up? Please don't I love coming by your blog. You know we do not know the impact we have on others and you have a positive affirming impact with your blog. I think everyone goes through times when they feel lost or disappointed not able to do things that came naturally to them or they enjoyed. That's okay but it doesn't mean we should stop doing these things altogether it can just be a lull in the road and we turn a corner and things are even better than before or something new turns up. Keep going Shel and you will know you would not turn me away if you decided to share what you fear would turn readers away :-).

    1. Thanks so much; for the congrats, the support and the inspiration. You know how much I enjoy reading your words. I will turn that corner, eventually :) How would I appreciate all these little things without the dips in life to remind me? Just keep swimming.... Thank you again, my friend.

  7. Oh Michelle if only you really knew how much you deserve these awards!! I sometimes think none of us are really brave enough to write what we really think on our blogs and on occasion I think it would be so good to ! I have a post sitting waiting , but I'm not brave enough to press the publish button just yet -it's just a little too personal about how hard things get sometimes - the external stuff is easy! So from one pretty exhausted sahm struggling through the end of the summer holiday, to another, please keep blogging!! Xx

    1. I really appreciate your comments, Claire, and I agree that it probably would be helpful once in a while to throw it ALL out there. How soul-cleansing would that be? Publish your post so I can relate!! :)

Things do get hard; I always suffer a bit every time there is a change. With the kids going back it's all been a bit much. Thanks for your words (which are always so nice). Good luck with the end-of-summer holiday. I hope it goes smoothly for you XOX

  8. "Double M," 1st: absolute congrats on two (more) awards. well done & deservedly so!!! 2nd: 25,000+??? wow!!! that says a lot about what & how you say it each "publish." as a "newbie," i can honestly say i have thoroughly enjoyed finding/reading your blog, as well as "meeting" you. 3rd: crossroads??? as i so affectionately used to say to munchkin, "i'll put a knot on your head" if... you have much to offer. here's hoping you will/can "stay in the game." besides, we have a Thanksgiving Day "date." your family, my family, winner take all, whatever all is (smiles & a fist-pump). looking forward to the next one... take care, slu

    1. Slu, I'd hardly call you a newbie blogger. You know how much I enjoy reading your summarizations of life. The "I'll put a knot in your head if" rings close to a "I'll hang you up by your toenails.." unto which I say, Ok! Ok! I give!

Nothing will get in the way of our Turkey Day date. The man has already ordered his Madden 13. I have to keep my fingers and toes crossed now that our QB was hurt in pre-season...

In all seriousness, your comments made me smile. I'm looking up at all the comments written by our co-bloggers and wondering how I got so lucky. Looking forward to your Friday musings...-shel

  9. I'm SO glad you suddenly got barraged by a load of bloggie awards! It's about time - you are BIG time baby;) 25,000 hits is pretty special. I've been racking up some hits recently but only because of internet pervs Googling 'vagina flower' !!!

ANYWAY - Thank you from the bottom of my heart for passing these awards my way. I like how you niftily combined them into one blog (very efficient). And please PLEASE don't stop blogging. I, for one, would miss you :)

    1. Thanks Josie (my first award giver)! I love the reasons you're racking up hits. The Lochia post alone got my curiosity going. I would have had much smoother pregnancies if I knew someone like you who could have spelled it all out for me. I love your honesty and uh, graphic depictions. Ah, the memories!!

Not only did I combine the awards on my blog, I split two between your two blogs. Congrats to you- on so many levels. I hope that new miracle of yours is meshing well in your home. Love to you- shel

    2. Thanks for thinking of BOTH blogs! I'm chuffed to finally have a bit of recognition for Across The Pond - someone else dropped the Liebster off there also. So, guess what? I copied your super efficient idea and combined the Laine and Liebster awards on my latest Across The Pond blog post:D

Boy did it take some work this week - especially finding 15 bloggers to pass the awards on to - but I finally cracked it! Now I'm off back to my blog to put the awards on my sidebar!!!

Oh yes, there are times I wonder exactly what I am going to post next and I say to myself "why not just leave this thing alone and forge another part for yourself?", lol. But your blog is wonderful and your content is one of a kind. Thank goodness the awards came in time. I must say you passing it on to me is also opportune because I have been feeling down too.
I will post and pass this along the moment I can

I'm honored that you'd leave such a thoughtful comment. We women sure can be hard on ourselves, can't we? I like the "forge" part. I feel like I must always find something tangible to validate myself with. Odd, and unnecessary, I know. I'm glad the award found you and your wonderful blog.

  12. Congratulations on two wonderful blogger awards. They are well deserved and it's nice to see your hard work and talent get recognized. You are right - these awards are very timely. And 25,000 hits? Who would have thunk it? That is a great accomplishment but really it comes as no surprise since you've always been successful at anything you undertake. Your blog is just another example of the positive impact you have on others. Keep up the good work (and blogging) and here's to the next 25,000 hits! The kids and I are very proud of you and love you!

    1. Thanks, Man. For reading all of these wonderful comments last night, and for writing now. It's amazing who shows up during certain times of need. This wasn't really an "oh, woe is me" post, but the comments/awards/kinds words were more needed than I thought. 25, 000 more? Let's just take one hit at a time. :) Thanks for being present and holding me up during the not-so-easy times...I love you. Oh yeah, I said it. It's also your night to cook. :)

  13. You can't stop blogging.. It's like the cliche saying that goes around.. something along the lines of 'your words cut deeper than your actions'.. I think that you are underestimating how much people who follow your blog truly hold on to the words that you say. You are definitely one of a kind. The perfect blend of humor with an edge of complete and legitimate truth. It's nice to keep up with blogs that post motivational snipbits and how perfect their lives are.. But sometimes it's more inspirational and uplifting to read about another person's life, minus all the candy-coating. You present your thoughts and posts in such a way that it's easy to respect you as a writer/blogger, and as a person in general. I am not an avid blogger, but I believe that it is the low points when writing seems almost.. a burden? That brings about the best posts.. You never know who is reading your blog, or how exactly they will respond to it. It's easy to see that anyone who may stumble upon your blog will discover how blessed they are to have found such a real, hilarious, intelligent, kind, and respectable person. You are impacting the lives of many, whether you realize it or not. A laugh, or a down-to-earth situation regarding one of the many important stages of life, your posts are always there to keep it real, and to express the feelings everyone secretly feels. You are awesome! Congrats on your wonderful awards!! You deserve them.
Always remember that your words are respected, and deeply valued/looked up to.

I think that your friend A put it perfectly..."It's easy to see that anyone who may stumble upon your blog will discover how blessed they are to have found such a real, hilarious, intelligent, kind, and respectable person"

  22. I know how you feel. As of the last month or so my blogger's tank has been running on empty. I haven't been able to connect with topics or ideas that I feel passionate about writing and that I feel will connect with my readers. My husband, like your guy, encouraged me to continue and not be quick to give up on something I worked so hard for. I'm so happy you got these awards. It might just be the nudge you need to feel that what you do here is so valuable to others. Congrats to you. Your post was quite humble and touching.
